Your family member is not required by law to sponsor you to become a Canadian citizen. It is the individual’s choice whether he or she would like to sponsor you or not, but he or she is not bound by law to do so.


There are a number of requirements that one should meet to become a sponsor. A sponsor would have to be 18 years of age or older. He or she should also be a Canadian citizen, and should continue to reside in Canada when you become a permanent resident.
